Best Puck Screen for Lelit Anna: The 57mm Dilemma Solved
The Lelit Anna (PL41 series) is an incredible Italian-made espresso machine, but finding accessories for its unusual 57mm portafilter can be a nightmare. Here is how to fix your extraction and keep your shower screen spotless.
Understand the 57mm Size Issue
Almost all commercial and prosumer espresso machines use a 58mm portafilter. However, Lelit's entry-level machines—specifically the Anna (PL41TEM) and Anita (PL042)—use a proprietary 57mm group head.
If you buy a standard 58mm puck screen from Amazon, it simply will not fit into your Lelit basket. If you buy a 54mm screen (made for Sage/Breville), it will slide around loosely, failing to distribute water evenly and defeating the purpose entirely.
Why the Lelit Anna Needs a Puck Screen
The Lelit Anna is known for having a powerful pump and a boiler that sits directly above the group head. This design can sometimes cause water to hit the coffee puck with intense localized pressure, leading to channeling (where water drills a hole through the coffee rather than extracting evenly).
A 57mm puck screen acts as a secondary shower screen. It sits directly on top of your tamped coffee, breaking up the water jet and showering the puck gently and evenly. It also prevents coffee grounds from sucking back up into your Lelit's 3-way solenoid valve, meaning you rarely have to backflush or scrub the group head.
Adjusting Your Dose for the Screen
The standard Lelit double basket holds about 14-16 grams of coffee. A puck screen is typically 1.7mm thick (for standard mesh) or 0.8mm thick (for ultra-thin precision screens).
Because the screen takes up vertical space in the basket, you cannot overfill your portafilter. If you normally dose 16g, you may need to drop your dose to 15g or 15.5g to ensure the portafilter locks into the Lelit Anna smoothly without the screen pressing hard against the shower screw.

Coffee oils will eventually build up inside the microscopic layers of a mesh puck screen. To keep your extractions tasting fresh, rinse the screen under hot water from your Lelit's steam wand immediately after every shot.
Once a week, drop the puck screen into a cup with a half-teaspoon of espresso machine cleaning powder (like Cafiza) and hot water. Let it soak for 15 minutes, rinse thoroughly, and it will perform like brand new.
